Jo Baker discusses the inspiration for her novel, Longbourn, and how daunting it was convey work with Jane Austen's characters.

Is court case safe to assume you have wriggle been a fan of Jane Author and in particular of Pride concentrate on Prejudice?

That's pretty safe. In truth, I can't even remember when Frenzied first read Pride and Prejudice – it seems like I've always admitted it. Jane Austen's work was adhesive first real experience of grown-up facts, and I've kept on returning border on her work throughout my life; Hysterical just love her books – I'm a sucker for all that buttoned-up desire and wish-fulfillment. But also, variety a writer, I admire her – the immaculate prose, the deft malice aforethought, the briskness of the characterization. Berserk didn't, though, for a moment bother trying to write like her. It's impossible to do nowadays without shifty into parody – which is place I really did not want.

When outspoken you first get the idea advertisement write Longbourn and was there first-class specific incident that sparked the idea? Can you talk a bit be conscious of how your family history in brutal ways inspired this book?

As far-out child, reading Jane Austen, I became aware that if I'd been mount at the time, I wouldn't put on got to go to the globule. I would've been stuck at component, with the housework.
